In this episode of the podcast, host Roos returns after a hiatus to discuss chapter 44 of the manga Terra Formars, titled "Boxer." He opens by explaining the premise of the series: humanity’s attempt to terraform Mars using cockroaches, which have since evolved into powerful humanoid creatures. The story follows genetically modified soldiers sent to combat these formidable "Terraformars." Roos shares his personal context, mentioning his recent busy schedule as a student and promising more consistent content after his upcoming exams. The chapter centers on a fight between Keiji Onizuka, a former world champion boxer, and a mantis shrimp like Terraformar in an underground tunnel.
Roos highlights the mantis shrimp’s unique biological traits, such as its powerful punch and polarized eyesight, which it uses to communicate and defend itself. He contrasts the shrimp’s vulnerability, damage to its eyes renders it helpless, with Keiji’s human advantage of a larger brain, which allows for greater adaptability despite injuries. During the battle, Keiji suffers serious injuries, including damage to his right eye and paralysis or breakage of his left arm, which complicates his ability to fight, especially since he is a southpaw. Despite this, Keiji’s determination shines through as he continues to stand and fight.
Roos explains the boxing stance and strategy, noting that Keiji’s experience as a world champion gives him an edge even in dire circumstances. The fight intensifies as Keiji manages to land a powerful punch with his right arm, sending the cockroach like opponent flying and ultimately knocking it out. Roos describes the mantis shrimp’s punch as incredibly forceful, comparing it to a .22 caliber handgun, and imagines the impact if scaled to human size. The chapter ends with a dramatic countdown reminiscent of a boxing match, culminating in Keiji’s victory by knockout after nearly ten minutes of combat.
Roos reflects on the excitement of the chapter and expresses his commitment to providing regular content for his audience. He apologizes for past inconsistencies and invites listeners to engage by suggesting topics or chapters they want covered. He emphasizes his passion for sharing anime and manga content alongside his science podcast, aiming to make this a consistent part of his creative output. In closing, Roos thanks his listeners for their support and encourages new subscribers to follow the podcast. He signs off with a friendly farewell, promising to return with more content soon. The episode blends detailed analysis of the manga’s action with personal insights and a genuine connection to the audience.

Basics. Alright, what's going on guys? It's your boy Roos. Welcome back again to another episode on the podcast. Today, we are reading Terraforma's chapter 44. I know it's been a while since I made any form of content in terms of the podcast, but I just want to say thank you for tuning in and thank you for sticking with me. It's been a rough couple of months due to me being a student and revision and so on and so forth. And tomorrow is actually my day for exams. I'm pointing this out just so that I can give you guys something because after tomorrow, I'm going to be consistent and just working more. Like a creature that a child might design, its whole body is a weapon. Chapter 44, titled Boxer.
It's about the terraformer that was a boxer named Keiji and he's fighting one of the terraformers which is a cockroach in this tunnel slash underground. In addition to punching prey, it has miraculous eyesight. According to some theories, it uses polarized light to communicate. It has a crustacean's hard shell and spines to fend off enemies. A single slash of its tail is deadly. Humans have given the mantis shrimp nicknames like Thumbsplitter and the Shrimp from Mars. However, it relies on its eyes to process information which allows for a smaller brain. Damage to its projecting eyes immediately renders it helpless. Uh oh, he hit me. My right eye, I can't see.
The difference is though here, is that although this is the prey mantis and when its eyes, as you can see, is being eaten by another predator and it renders it helpless, Keiji is a human with a bigger brain. Our brains as humans has adapted to cater towards our bodies and the bigger brain that we've got now is also why we are the dominant predators on this planet. All right, and my left arm, paralyzed. Broken, it won't move. Your arm is, actually that's a good point. If it's paralyzed, it can't move. If it's broken, it can't move. So either one of the two is a situation for Keiji right now. Nonetheless, Keiji was able to stand on his own strength. I can do this. Chapter 44, boxer. I want to sleep.
My eye and left arm won't heal soon. And I'm a southpaw. I've done enough. Basically, when you're a southpaw, your dominant hand is your right arm. Wait. Yeah, wait. If it's southpaw, sorry, the stance that you take is your right hand in front of you and your left hand behind you. So yeah. It's so that people can not see you strike with your right arm, which is your power arm because they know that's your right arm. So if you're punching with your left arm, you're checking, you're checking, you're checking, you jab or you give a power punch. That's your arm. I'm no phenomenon, but I was the world champion. This was a good match, really far from home. Now I want to bath some sashimi and some sashimi.
Oh, the cockroach swung for him whilst he's thinking. Just a little longer. Just one more round. As long as I'm still standing. Ah, thread like the other ones. Since when? Looks like the cockroach hit him. Crash. Launched him into the sky. Oof. He threw a rock at him. Oh, so basically, the cockroach launched him away and had turned around to walk off because it felt cagey, just done now. But KG threw a rock at his head and it swung behind him thinking it was literally behind him. But KG, KG, I, I could always hear my name even though cheers for the other guys should have drowned it out. That's because mom always watched on TV. Now, even though I've lost everything and everyone, next, Onizuka KG. KG Onizuka.
It's really you? KG? Are you the boxer KG Onizuka? KG Onizuka? You know him? Yep. He's got a cool name. I'm glad that you said my name. KG. KG. KG. You got this. You bet I do. So everyone's relying on him. When they speak his name, he feels the chance behind him. Gives him strength. His legs are wobbling. And he hit the cockroach. Walk. Crack. He did. The most well known characteristic of the mantis shrimp is its punch. It can flick its front two legs to break aquarium glass. Even in water, it can break a diver's finger. Oh my gosh. At only 15 centimeters long, it has the force of a .22 caliber handgun. Imagine that force now, right? In human size. Exactly. At human size. And with that water resistance.
Yeah, you're bait. Whack. This is with his power arm, the right arm. Sent the cockroach flying. Snap. Through the thread. Bow, bow, bow. Boom. Yeah, this cockroach has to be done. Look, it's got the imprint of his fist. Peak writing. Crack, crack, crack. Both. He can't move after that. I can see that you won't be getting up. Oh, this is counting down from 10 seconds. As in like boxing. 10, 8, 7, 6. That is so cool. You can't get up. Learned anything, Weevil? A brawler got slugging it out. Our martial arts are about hitting without getting hit. But. 4, 3. Let me guess. Boxing. Getting hit and standing up within 10 seconds. Oh, Keiji Onizuka. Insect. Peacock. Not insect, but, you know. Peacock Mantis Shrimp.
Finishing move. Right body blow. 2 seconds. Hulking Brute Terraformer. Pacriincus Infernalus. Esophageal Ganglion Injury. That's boxing. I think the soft seagulls just be like, you know, like you got your esophagus. I think it's just below that. You know, like how you got this little hole in between your two breast chest and your abs. You get punched there. You just can't breathe, can't do nothing. I think he got hit and he got crushed. The fight lasted for 9 minutes, 47 seconds in round 4. 3, 6. Oh, 2 minutes each round, I think. 2, 4, 6, 8. Yeah, maybe. Ding, ding, ding. Knockout. A KO always feels so damn good. Yeah, man. That was chapter 44 of Terraformers. I really enjoyed it.
You know one thing is, I always say this, and I'm really sad about saying this again, but I always say that I'm going to be consistent and then I'm not consistent. But I want you guys to understand that I really am going to do my best to be consistent.
