I should still do a proper review on episode 1. I think it was decent. It wasn't anything crazy. But as long as it's a long series, like the first season, with a lot of fights, a lot of interaction and development, I wouldn't mind watching the rest of the series and making reviews for it. After leaving the city of Orburst, Frieren's party realizes funds are low.
That was literally the last episode towards the first episode of the new season of Frieren season 2, and decides to look for work in the next town. The situation improves when Frieren discovers a valuable crystal that nullifies magic. Frieren immediately worries about traveling with it since it blocks magic, and she pushes it to throw it away. Frieren insists on one more lesson first. When filled with enough magic, the crystal becomes blindingly bright, leading to a funny back and forth before the party moves on. As the journey continues, the trio learns more about the long road to the Northern Plateau, before falling into a cave filled with similar crystals, rendering magic useless.
Trapped and vulnerable, danger arrives when a huge, venomous dragon attacks them. The episode highlights Frieren's quiet trust in Stark, especially when they must rely on him to escape. A flashback to Hima's party highlights a core role of teamwork, trust, means moving together even when running away. Now, I remember watching this episode, and I remember seeing Stark in front of Frieren and Fern, defending them off from the venomous creature, because the crystals actually nullified their magic. And it just goes to show that when it comes to fighting, you know, they really do rely on their roles. Fern is a magician, so is Frieren, and so physicality isn't a strong suit.
And so if it comes down to fighting, maybe they do have some form of skill or some form of ways to defend themselves, but nowhere near the physicality that Stark has, where he's able to swing a full on axe and do an immense amount of damage. Back in the present, Stark carries Frieren and Fern to safety. The trio later meet Worrible at an inn. He again tries to recruit Stark as a frontliner in the war against demons, but Stark refuses, saying he is already his party's frontliner. Frieren still permits Worrible to keep trying. Stark later tells Fern their party gave him purpose and hope, and he's staying by choice.
The next leg of the journey continues by road instead of sea, with Worrible promising to see them again. So from this, even though Frieren was pushing Worrible to keep asking Stark to join, Stark himself is also finding himself to be a very important person within the party, just like his previous mentor. He feels as though he didn't have no purpose, and he didn't have no hope, which is why he was just in the village and he didn't move on. But him being in the party with Frieren, someone who was a previous party member to his master, and is now friends with Fern, another magician who is also a previous subordinate to her master, not necessarily a master but a caretaker, the priest, is somewhere he feels home.
So basically him saying that the party gave him hope and so on and so forth, I feel like what he's saying is it now feels like home, a place where he can protect and be there for those he cares about. Now I'm assuming that there's probably going to be a full party member somewhere sooner or later, but as of right now we've got a person that can fight, we've got two people that are magicians. I feel like we need someone that's like a prophet or a pope. I remember there was a guy in season 1 that had the potential, but I don't remember exactly what happened to him. I think I might have accidentally skipped episode 2 on him.
Moving on, it says Frieren: Beyond Journey's End is finally back on screens this winter season. Continue the reflective journey of the immortal elf mage, Frieren and her companions after season 2's premiere on January 16th, 2026. The series will roll out new episodes weekly on Fridays. Now my personal opinion is I like how Frieren's storyline is going and I like how we're getting more information on Stark because in season 1 he was really just pushed aside to do his own thing whilst Frieren and Fern got to introduce themselves to us as an audience and to us as characters mainly. I'm not saying Stark didn't have his strong suit where they showed his physicality and his worries and just how he feels as a person and that needs more belief and hope in himself but we can all agree that Frieren and Fern were the show of season 1.
In season 2 if they happen to show Stark a bit more that would be appreciative but then if they go with this form of play on story where in each season they increase their party by one more person I would like to see the longer on how Frieren: Beyond Journey's End goes. Anyways, once again it's been your boy Roose. The goal that we're aiming for is 2000 watch time hours on Spotify.
