Episode Notes
Denji is robbed of a normal teenage life, left with nothing but his deadbeat father's overwhelming debt. His only companion is his pet, the chainsaw devil Pochita, with whom he slays devils for money that inevitably ends up in the yakuza's pockets. All Denji can do is dream of a good, simple life: one with delicious food and a beautiful girlfriend by his side. But an act of greedy betrayal by the yakuza leads to Denji's brutal, untimely death, crushing all hope of him ever achieving happiness. Remarkably, an old contract allows Pochita to merge with the deceased Denji and bestow devil powers on him, changing him into a hybrid able to transform his body parts into chainsaws.
Because Denji's new abilities pose a significant risk to society, the Public Safety Bureau's elite devil hunter Makima takes him in, letting him live as long as he obeys her command. Guided by the promise of a content life alongside an attractive woman, Denji devotes everything and fights with all his might to make his naive dreams a reality. In this episode of the podcast, Roos dives into Chainsaw Man chapter 231, titled "Goodbye Pochita." He opens by thanking listeners for their growing support, noting the podcast is close to reaching 240 followers and a goal of 2,000 total listening hours. This enthusiasm sets the tone for his detailed discussion of the chapter, which centers on the emotional farewell between Denji and his chainsaw devil companion, Pochita. Roos describes the chapter’s poignant imagery, highlighting Pochita’s appearance as both cute and symbolic of his true nature as a chainsaw devil.
He reflects on the bittersweet relationship between Denji and Pochita, emphasizing how despite Pochita’s devilish nature, there is a genuine bond and understanding between them. Roos points out that while Pochita views the world through a devil’s perspective, finding happiness in suffering, this connection with Denji is unique and touching. The episode explores the chapter’s climax, where Pochita decides to "eat himself," a metaphorical act that could erase the existence of Chainsaw Man and possibly the devils Pochita has consumed. Roos expresses uncertainty about the consequences of this event but speculates it might lead to a return to normalcy in the story’s world.
He notes the sadness of this moment, as it signifies the end of the core relationship that has driven much of the narrative. Roos also comments on the chapter’s brevity, acknowledging that while he wishes for more content, he understands the challenges faced by mangaka working under tight deadlines. He encourages listeners to appreciate the work they receive and to be mindful of the pressures on creators, especially to avoid long hiatuses that fans dread. Towards the end, Roos shares his plans to cover more anime and manga series in future episodes, including popular titles like Bucky, Hell’s Paradise, and Jujutsu Kaisen.
He reassures listeners that content will continue steadily, especially over the summer before he returns to school in October. Overall, the episode balances a mix of factual summary and personal reflection, maintaining Roos’s enthusiastic and supportive tone. He invites listeners to follow the podcast and engage with the content, expressing gratitude for their ongoing support and promising more discussions on anime and manga to come.

Alright, this is Chainsaw Man chapter 231 titled Goodbye Pochita. Now on my TikTok, which I do believe I put on my links in the description, I did post a little edit montage of this chapter so you guys could go check it out. Everyone's a bit sad that Pochita has left. Well, let's just go on with the chapter. Alright. Pochita, how? Pochita looking as cuddly and as cute as we first were introduced. Looks like we got eaten by a devil, Denji. For real? That's bad. What's gonna happen to us? You know, there's a dog here that has like, there's a syndrome where a dog has like the back and it's like the spine is basically very short. That's what it reminds me of when I see Pochita.
Looking at the back of Pochita, you really understand that it's really a chainsaw devil. It's got the handle in the back and it's got a handle in the front and it's got a zip to just keep it steady so that the chainsaw can come out. Like just legit exactly what that is, which is very weird. Our dream life together is over. Or maybe that's a good thing. Huh? No, no way. That ain't good. I was so close to getting to have sex and kisses. I could have had unlimited kisses. It's good that you didn't get to do that, Denji. Are you serious? When you found a precious family, when you got to go to the school you wanted to attend, and when you connected with Asa, some part of you was still unhappy, right?
Unfortunately, you must have noticed too, you were far happier starving and suffering fighting devils and eating spoiled bread in that rundown shack. Turns out, you had the crappiest but best kind of brain. One that can only find heaven when you're in hell. So this is Pachita in his full form, or her full form, giving Denji a hug. Normally you wouldn't ever see a demon or devil do this because they're so hostile, they're just so willing to eat the human or the host, not work with the host, but here it's genuinely a real life connection.
Obviously, the things that Pachita was mentioning about hell, best kind of brain, noticing that Denji is just a human that he enjoyed the suffering with, it just shows the bad side of a devil. No matter how cute Pachita is, it's still a devil at the end of the day, so it's not going to look at the good things that are meant to be seen as good things from a human's point of view, but from a devil's point of view, which is understandable, it's a devil. But I'm just glad that such a devil, such as Pachita, can meet in the middle with a human and understand that although they're two different beings, they can work together within their future endeavours.
Now as you can see, spirit, blood, all over Denji's face, Chainsaw Man, Pachita is cutting a hole in its chest. Denji, I'm going to eat myself now. Would you look at that? Denji's shocked, and that's Pachita right there. Can you see the eyes? And the nose? What the hell, Pachita? I don't know what'll happen afterward either. A world in which Chainsaw Man doesn't exist. A world in which I never existed will be created. You can't do that! I don't want to lose you! In a world without me, maybe you could keep dreaming. Since meeting you, I've seen all the dreams I want to see. Keep on dreaming, Denji. Pachita!
And you can see in this last couple of panels, Denji's got his hand out to Pachita, but Pachita is waving goodbye. And then at the end, right through the forest, the trees, remember I've seen this before because I put this up on TikTok just yesterday, I'm making a podcast today. This is the shack where Denji and Pachita had lived out their time together, starving and killing other devils together. So it's kind of sad of an episode. I don't want to say this is the end of Chainsaw Man, the last chapter before this, you can go back and watch it. We saw Denji get into a fight with a devil and the devil looked like it was about to hit him just before we got into this page.
But it's just one of those things where it's just like Denji and Pachita's relationship is the basis of the story, even though a hardcore point of it is basically their goals, which were separate but now became one due to Denji dying and Pachita taking Denji's replacement as his heart. But now that he's decided to eat himself, which his ability as the Chainsaw Man is when he eats devils, they don't exist. Who knows what's going to happen in the world? My suggestion or should I say my guess is that once Pachita's been eaten and is no more in the world of Chainsaw Man, all devils that Pachita has eaten is just going to get erased. Maybe go back to the world of normalcy again, you know? I don't know.
That's just my thoughts about it. Episode 231 wasn't bad, although short, like I always mention in the previous parts when I make these chapters. I do get annoyed because I want to read more and see more. But remember, drawing this as a mangaka must not be easy, especially when this is your life because you have to do this weekly and probably on a tight time schedule and so on and so forth. So what we get is what we get.
But what we get, we should be happy and fortunate that we get what we get because we don't want to hear stories of the author that we enjoy reading his stuff on that they're sick now or they can't draw anymore because that's just going to create a crazy hiatus, which we all hate because no one wants to wait one year just to read another chapter. But yeah, that's the chapter for 231 on Chainsaw Man, chapter 231. Please, please, please make sure to follow the links in the description. Make sure to follow this podcast. Probably the most important thing and rack up the hours so that we can get monetized. You guys are doing crazy numbers. I'm not going to lie to you. I'll be honest.
We've been getting some followers real quickly. We've been getting some hours real quickly. And yeah, like even plays on every new episode quickly that we've just been getting them. Listen, there's so many episodes I'm going to do. I'm catching up on all the ones I need to do. There's so many anime series that's come out. I've made a whole list of what I need to do, such as Bucky, which has come out. Hell's Paradise, Jujutsu Kaisen. Oh my goodness. So many. Don't worry. I'll do that. Okay, especially over the summertime period before, you know, I get back into school again in October. Mate, it will be there. Okay, content, content, content. We're sticking through this.
Thank you once again for tuning in and take care of yourselves. I'm out. Peace.
